Istanbul, that famous shopping paradise all over the world. Istanbul is a city where that unimaginable is sold. Handicrafts, lamps, dishes, hats, carpets, spices and sweets. Shopping in Istanbul is as traditional as visiting mosques and hamams. The two great bazaars that you can find in the city, are the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar, must-see places, and ideal for buying certain products, although not all.
Beyond the bazaars
Before buying in the Grand Bazaar or the Spice Bazaar, it is convenient to visit the stores that are outside the markets, in the adjacent streets, since certain products usually have lower prices than within the market.
One of the best places to shop is Istiklal Street (Istiklâl Caddesi), which starts at Taksim Square (Taksim Meydanı). This is the most commercial street in modern Istanbul. It is almost 2 kilometers long and in all its extension you will find shops of all kinds: clothes, shoes, books and music, sportswear, souvenirs and everything you can think of.
Great brands and antiques
If you are looking for clothes of big brands, you should go to the Nisantini area, and Ortakoy for handicrafts and antiques (only on Sundays).
On the other hand, if you are looking for the most traditional products of Istanbul, such as jewelry and carpets, visit Sultanhamet, where you will find many shops.
Never stop haggling. Remember that they will always ask you, for the merchandise, more than it really is.
